Can I ask you more stupid questions about Finland?

When is your national day? And what do you do to celebrate it? Cheers!

I’m happy to answer your questions. :)

I’d say the closest thing to national day we have is our independence day on 6th of December.

...you guys celebrate independence in winter? But then how do you barbeque? hahaha.

Thanks. Was it independence from the Russian empire that you celebrate?

We don’t, we sit in front of the TV and watch bunch of people shake hands with the presidential couple. :P

Yeah, on that day in 1917 the Parliament adopted the declaration of independence. Finland was autonomous part of Russian empire so we used the unstable situation going on in Russia at the time to gain full independence.

Interesting. I wonder if I’ll see it in tomorrow at the monthly gathering.
